Chairperson and Parent Governor:
Mrs. V Hulme - Cocking firstname.lastname@example.org
I joined the Board of Governors at Upperwood Academy in 2010. Since 2015 however, I have been privileged to act as Chair of Governors. My initial interest in joining the Governing Body, began like all parents; wanting a happy but effective learning environment for my children.
I have a background in travel & tourism, managing a travel agency, before completing teaching qualifications. I have over 20 years’ experience of working in a variety of roles within further education. My previous teaching & management roles have been invaluable in understanding the complexities of governance within a primary school. The knowledge and experience gained from completing a master’s degree - MBA in strategic management, links into the strategic nature of the role of Chair of Governors. I presently work for City & Guilds, ensuring colleges throughout the UK are meeting quality requirements, allowing the knowledge and skills that I have gained in quality assurance to be used within my governance role.
My governor responsibility specialist areas are the school development plan and the principal’s performance management. Upperwood Academy is a fantastic school, I strive for continued success in providing all our children with the best possible start in their educational journey.
