Welcome to our Special Educational Needs and  Disability (SEND) information page.

Upperwood is an inclusive school and believes that all children should be valued and treated with respect. We endeavor to ensure that the provision for all pupils is of the highest possible standard. We are committed to narrowing the attainment gap between children with SEND and their non - SEND peers and also those who are vulnerable at any stage of their educational life.

We want children to do their best, achieve, and be confident in their lives so they are prepared to move to their next stage in education.

The school works with due regard to the SEN Code of Practice (2014) and the Equality Act (2010).

The next Makaton Taster session for professionals and parent/carers will be the 29th September. You will note some Tasters are face to face and some are virtually. I know we had a few enquiries from settings for parents, so if you could pass on the dates to any parent/carers that are interested, that would be great. As always, parents need to contact me via email to book a place.

The Taster gives you a general introduction into what Makaton is and who uses it, with the opportunity to learn a few signs and symbols too. The signs and symbols are aimed at pupils in the early years, and the training is free. If the session is delivered through Microsoft Teams, you will need a computer with a webcam. This is really important so I can see you signing. The Taster has the same learning objectives and content as the face to face session but is delivered in the comfort of your own home or setting. If interested, please email gemmawhitfield@barnsley.gov.uk to book a place.
